Not to blow my own horn… well kind of… here are some nice things people have said about me…
‘THANKS FOR CHANGING MY LIFE’
Hello Jan
I just saw that you were a contributor to this thread last year – I hope you don’t mind but I just wanted to message you to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing such beautiful, helpful and inspiring books. They are literally my bibles, I refer to all of the books constantly. My little “better baby” is nearly one – and just the light of my life! He is a perfect example of a “better baby” and I am just so proud of everything I did (and am doing) to create such a perfect baby. We are still happily breastfeeding and I hope to continue to do so for as long as possible.
I keep checking on the internet every month or so to see if you have published your promised next book in the “better babies” series – I simply cannot wait! I keep wondering if decisions I am making now (without your help) are the right ones! I feel like you have been my best friend for the last few years – because you are the one that I go to when I have questions or am unsure about decisions I have to make!
I have “referred” to you daily over the last few years – from preconception, to pregnancy – I even took the books into labour with me in case I needed to refer to any of the yoga positions or if I forgot anything in those important few hours after the birth! I would especially love to “talk” with you both to find out in detail which foods you introduced and when, which foods you think that our kids can do without (I know you have written a small bit in “Better Breastfeeding”, but I still have so many more questions and queries! I’d love to know EXACTLY what you did with your boys, while you still kept breastfeeding. Most of my friends think I am crazy with all the foods I don’t let Lennon have.
Anyway, sorry to ramble – I don’t even know if you will read this – but thank you again for your amazing talent and gifts – your gift of sharing your vast knowledge has changed my life – and so many others (I have bought so many copies of your books for all my pregnant friends!) Looking forward to reading more from you soon.
From “A Better Baby Mum” – Kristy B.
Dear Jan,
I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next! I have noticed Better Babies pop up in so many places, in Australia and the U.K. for starters. I loved the feeling of giving mine the very best start in life.
I agree with you about what is meant to be. With my second gorgeous boy Luca I left it to the Gods to decide if my oldest Benjamin was meant to have a brother or a sister, and I did want him to have a brother on many levels because I think there is something special about same-sex sibling bonds. So many older mothers of sons tell me wonderful stories about how their boys remain close and what loving sons they are, and mine are just so loving now, I am sure they will continue that way.
How wonderful that your boys have got to young adulthood safely, and are doing so well. I wish your second son the very best of luck with his exams. You must be so proud of them. I just think it’s amazing that you have managed to publish so much and have such an interesting career. I am awaiting publication of my first book, or rather, my PhD being turned into a book (on the male body becoming female in Greek tragedy), and it was so hard to get one book out of me, I can’t imagine how you’ve done so many. All the best to you!
Warmest wishes, Katrina C.
Thanks Jan,
You are a gem. Oh there are plenty of us that love to chat about TTC and parenting. Sometimes I never shut up about it.
I think my husband is already over hearing about ovulation, luteal phases and all of those scientific and non-romantic aspects of TTC.
Cheers and have a lovely day.

Dear Jan,Thank you again, for enlightening my journey into Motherhood, and filling my mind and heart with so much wonderful knowledge and wisdom, which has empowered me to make the best possible choices for the best possible outcomes. I feel so privileged to be a caretaker of our gorgeous little boy Gabriel. Our lives have been enriched beyond measure, and we are certainly on a magical and extraordinary journey.
Wishing you all the very best,
Kind regards,
Jenny B.
Book Reviews – The Natural Way to Better Babies
Australian Complementary Health AssociationAt last a book on what to think about (and do) even before you think about making babies. A triumph for commonsense.
Nexus Magazine
If you’re contemplating having a child, whether for the first time or not, this book is essential reading.
Wellbeing MagazineThis comprehensive book explains the essentials of diet, nutrition, fitness and lifestyle factors for a healthy pregnancy, birth and baby. An essential resource for parents to be.
Amazon ReviewAccording to Naish and Roberts, we have the opportunity to influence the health outcomes of our prospective children, by improving our own health prior to conception.
If you are struggling to conceive, have suffered miscarriages, have given birth to a child with compromised health, are an older mother or just want to do the best thing by you and your family, then this is the book for you.
They recommend abstaining from processed food, caffeine, alcohol, recreational drugs, medications (where possible) for three months prior to conception, to allow us to provide the best quality sperm and eggs to make our children. Organic food is recommended, as is vitamin supplementation (zinc very important for both parents, taking selenium reduces the incidence of Down syndrome), wholefood consumption and so on.
They give info about health, exercise, best times to attempt conception, homeopathic and herbalist help, acupressure etc. Tons of good advice.
If you follow their advice you are more likely to produce a robust, easier to manage infant. The benefits of good health management can last for up to 3 generations, so you are also influencing the health of your grandchildren and so on.
I’d recommend this book to anyone.
