This week I was asked by an old friend from the NSW Police School Liason Team if I’d make a presentation to teenagers at a couple of High Schools on the North Coast. She told me the culture was all about drink, drugs and sex.
It got me thinking … firstly about synergies and secondly about long-term effects.
Let’s talk about long term effects first. There are both direct adverse effects from the various chemicals and the drugs, as well as indirect ones which are exerted through nutritional deficits and deranged biochemistry. These combined effects can take a very LONG TIME to reverse.
You might be thinking, it’s those four months immediately prior to conception that I have to consider, but whether you’re planning a baby soon or leaving it until you’ve done a few other things, you need to keep in mind that reversing the damage can be depressingly slow when all you want to do is to get pregnant.
My co-author has a clinic in Sydney where she deals almost exclusively with couples who are dealing with the effects of a chemically enhanced lifestyle and a SAD diet – Standard Australian Diet – on the top of years of pharmaceutical contraceptive measures. If you’re thinking, well IVF will come to my rescue, let me assure you that while IVF is big business, it only by-passes Nature’s fail-safe mechanisms and delivers a 30% success rate, which in my books is actually a 70% failure rate. It also fails to measure more than a live birth which takes absolutely no account of the long-term physical and mental health of the mother or her baby. Not to mention what emotional effects the whole process has had on the relationship!
Let’s consider “synergy” which means that the total effects are greater than the sum of the individual parts. Nowhere is synergy more powerfully demonstrated than when you combine the effects of alcohol, cigarettes and other drugs. The ill-effects can’t be calculated – it is totally beyond the scope of even very sophisticated science to assess the combined effects of such a chemical cocktail. Layer that cocktail over multiple nutritional deficits that are the legacy of several generations on a SAD diet and I think the miracle is that humanity is reproducing at all.
Who saw Clive Owen in “Children of Men?” I’m definitely not the Prophet of Doom – but it’s why Building Better Babies is so VERY important!
